The overriding aim of parkyourcamper.com is to help the users find free campervan parking and also suggest things to do in the area. The aim is not to create hundreds of tiny camp-sites all over the place!
Parkyourcamper.com is a new service, which aims to provide the details and locations of free camper parking for people travelling in self contained camper vans. As well as spots to park up for the night, the site also provides details on things to do in the area.
People travelling in camper vans can avoid paying fees at camp sites if they can find a suitable place to park up for the night. However, finding somewhere safe and suitable for the night can be a difficult task, which is where parkyourcamper.com can facilitate.
During our round the world trip, we found ourselves travelling around New Zealand in a camper van. Most nights we would try to minimise our costs by avoiding camp-sites. Often we found safe places to park the van for the night…however, this was not always the case.
We checked on-line and asked for advice at the information centres for free campervan parking but were unsuccessful. After finding plenty of places to stay for free along our way, we thought it would be a great idea if we could find a way to help others and create a map with all the areas clearly marked. After much deliberation, it was decided that a website should be built that would map all of the locations for a specified area and that other users should be able to add to this and therefore improve the service. parkyourcamper.com opened to the public on 01/04/2010.
The success of parkyourcamper.com really depends upon the user’s constantly entering new and updating existing locations. Without the users, the site just would not work.
